Patriotism and a patriotic culture is undoubtedly essential for development of nation and nation building. It acts as a foundation for all developmental activities, integrates diverse cultures, traditions, castes and religions. It acts as an umbrella, under which all diversities mingle and contribute to national building and national progress.
A sense of nationalism arises from a concordance of an inner realisation or a higher truth or both; it seeks therefore to establish Sanatana Dharma, the eternal truth of the Divine, as the law of all life and existence here as it is elsewhere in all the planes of Consciousness, for there is only one Law and One Truth and not many. It is out of that one Truth all lesser truth derives itself and formulates its own laws according to its need of the age in which it manifests or the time when it is most required.
Western nationalism is incapable of being as intense and sanctified as Bhartiya Rashtriyatva which is as ancient as the Himalayas. In Bharat, the motherland and the National society have been so very identified that it is impossible to think of the one without being reminded of the other.
